LAO 701 - FROM NORTHERN THAILAND TO LAOS Passing through the Golden Triangle, the once warstricken country of Laos is entered to visit some highlights like the old capital Luang Prabang and the french-influenced capital Vientiane. DEPARTURE: Daily from Chiang Mai, private tour   DAY 1 CHIANG MAI On arrival transfer to the hotel near the night bazaar to attend a short briefing of the itinerary for the following days. Rest of the day at leisure in the northern capital. DAY 2 CHIANG MAI - THATON After a visit to an orchid-farm outside the town pass Chiang Dao and stop at Wat Tum Tubtao, a cave-temple in the forest. Late afternoon arrive at the small town of Thaton. Spend the night in a lodge on the river banks. Photo: Luang Prabang, Laos. DAY 3 THATON - CHIANG SAEN In the morning drive to Doi Mae Salong, a mountain-top town inhabited by chinese descendants. Visit some other hilltribe villages before arriving in Mae Sai, Thailands northernmost town, with the opportunity to cross the border to neighbouring Myanmar (Burma). Reach the Golden Triangle at the mighty Mekhong river, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and Laos meet. Have a look into the opium museum. Accomodation at the Golden Triangle. DAY 4 CHIANG SAEN - LUANG PRABANG Early morning departure via Chiang Saen to Chiang Khong. After border formalities are done, cross the Mekhong river to Ban Huay Xai on the laotian side and take a short flight to Luang Prabang (on request this part can be traveled by speed boat as well). On arrival transfer to the hotel and rest of the day at leisure for first explorations in the old laotian capital. Overnight. DAY 5 LUANG PRABANG Visit some traditional villages in the surroundings before start for a boat trip upriver to visit the famous Pak Ou caves, that are enshrining numerous Buddha images. Return to Luang Prabang for a short tour through the old capital. Overnight in Laung Prabang. DAY 6 LUANG PRABANG - VIENTIANE In the morning take a short flight to Vientiane, the laotian capital. On arrival trransfer to the hotel and start for a sightseeing tour through the city with its french flair. Overnight in Vientiane. DAY 7 VIENTIANE Day at leisure until transfer to the airport or the thai-lao border.   VISA: At the moment no visa for Laos available at the border crossing Chiang Khong/Houay Xai. Therefore the visa is not included in the above itinerary. Please get your visa at your closest Lao Embassy. In case you will spend a few days in Bangkok or Chiang Mai before your tour, then visa can be arrange with the Laotian Embassy in Bangkok. Check with us for the newest updates.
